Skyline Drive and Walton's Mountain - Aug 26, 2010

Told you we travel with the big dogs.

Open the blinds, what do you see?

Here we are, the traveling companions.

We found all kinds of RVs in this park.

I've been holding on to these pictures for so long, I can't remember which town this is.
Oh, this is probably Rucksville, VA.

We saw many houses with red doors. (through a dirty window)

See how pretty with the window rolled down?

Interesting!!!
There must have been a mishap here. Quite recently too.

Or maybe this is Rucksville.

Heads together planning.

Liked the look of this tree.

Up the mountain we go. Skyline drive is endless trees. I got pretty tired of seeing all of them. They were pretty but overwhelming. Manuel will vouch for that.

We pulled into one of the turnouts and there was a grandma taking pictures of her family. Manny offered to take a picture of all of them. Up he climbed and grandma had a tough time getting up to the family. They had many more requests for Manny.

Got tired of trees so I decided to take pictures of the rocks.

These trees look just like the ones in Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia. Pay close attention, there'll be a test later.

Anyone know what kind of plant this is?

Connie's trying to figure out which way to turn to get the best picture.

Even mountains have bald spots!!
Which mountain range is this?
Looks like there has been a fire here.

This was a very big fir tree.
Queen Anne's Lace---a wildflower.

This valley is a loonnnnggg way down.
Yahoo, we down on dry ground.

Must have been a pretty good wind storm.
We headed for Walton's Mountain for lunch but the restaurant was now an apartment building. Just our luck!! We went into the museum instead.
When Walton's Mountain was on TV, they shot all the scenes here.

The Walton's kitchen.

and living room

A radio of the time.

Looks like the post office-gift shop.

John-Boy's room.

Not sure of this one.

We asked at the museum where we could get something to eat. They said there was a little place down the road that sold hamburgers and such. Well, let me tell you, little was the operative word. The whole store was about as big as our two RVs put together. We ordered our food and went outside to the picnic tables to eat. We shared our table with some other people until the thunder drove them away. Us too!! Don't think it would be a wise thing to be up in the mountains during a thunder storm. Sitting there we saw this piano.

Thank you for seeing us safely through the mountains and winding roads. It was a great day in spite of all the trees.
