The Biltmore Estate - Aug 21, 2010

Today is the day to see the Biltmore. I have been wanting to do this for umpteen years. Time to go through the guard gate. Into fantasyland. Check out Connie's blog for more http://esparzacm.blogspot.com/

You drive for miles through the winding forest paths.

All of a sudden, there's a house or a garden or something.

This is DeerPark, a formal restaurant. Can't go in...private party.

My first sight of the "castle" and it's a "WOW". The shuttle has just dropped us off.

We were up on the second floor and went out on a veranda. What a gorgeous sight to see.

The veranda.

The building you see is the stables. They converted them to several little shops and a great restaurant. Connie and I ate in that stable and it was quite an experience. We both had an asparagus and tomato quiche and I (personally) have never had such a good one.

When we came out of the stable, it was raining, no pouring. Got drenched getting this picture.

A quaint entrance. You can see it better on Connie's blog. (I forgot to wait for the wipers)
This is a little blurry 'cause I took it through the window. I wasn't going to get wet again!! We went in this building but I had an umbrella this time. It;s a garden shop where there is all kinds of stuff to buy. Luckily, (for George) I didn't have any money with me. We had left our purses in the car. Hidden of course.

The back of the estate.

Don't know where this lead, just thought is was interesting.

Coming up the hill we spot the Inn on Biltmore Estate.

Oops, Connie, we've made a wrong turn. This says for guests only. Well, we were technically guests but not of the hotel.

Oh well, now that we're here, let's have a look at the front door. You should have seen the valet's look at us!!

Over to the stables and barns. These horses have it rough.

The people have it worse.

This might be a different angle on Deer Park.

Lioncrest, where there was a reception in progress.

The gardener's house. Connie waited to get the entrance.

It looks like it's at flood stage but it's not. We camped on the far side of this river.

A building down on the farm.

Back through the fantasyland gate.

And into the real world.

What a joy it was to share this with my friend. In spite of the rain, it was a great day. Thank you
