Algonac, MI - Jul 30, 2010

It's taken me a couple of days to post these pictures because I found out that my broadband was picking up Canadian airwaves and thus costing me a fortune. So, I waited a few days to post. Now, my only problem is remembering all the stuff that happened. This is a freighter going up river right in front of the campground.

Thought this was a different way to present a small shopping center.

Some of the piers along the road from Vicki's to the campground. There is probably a mile of them. The water is the St Clair River that goes from Lake St Clair to Lake Huron. That's Canada across the river.

This HAD to be the first lunch in the New Baltimore, MI area.

My kids were raised in this house. It's so close to the road, I couldn't get the whole house without going into the neighbors yard across the road. We had a few hours to kill before dinner. Vicki and I decided we were going to have a family barbeque so we could see the girls for a longer time.

These next few homes are on the same road or in a close proximity. Now you know why we left---couldn't keep up with the Jones'/

When we lived in the other house, this was a mushroom farm. I was dumbfounded!!!

This church has been here FOREVER. It's in a town called Muttonville. Great name, eh?

Vicki's house.

Our girl, Allison, not looking too happy. George and I were sitting on a couch out of the way when she walked out on the porch. All she could say was "Shut Up"!!!! The look on her face was priceless.

Heather and Jeff (bride and groom)
Don't know what happened to Saturday. Bill and Vicki went here to dinner with us, Saturday night.

Bill and Vicki
Vicki says "MOM, do you have to take pictures of everything?" Yup, if it's interesting.

Couldn't resist taking a picture in the mirror.

What's this doing here?

Dem's all cheesecakes. We like to eat!!! There's another one somewhere. Maybe George has it.
Packin' the trunk with cheesecake. Bill and Vicki took them home to the refrigerator and then came back to the coach. (30 miles round trip)

A closer picture of a freighter on the river.

What a wonder time for family. Thank you.

Algonac, MI - Jul 29, 2010

We opened the shade this morning and look at all the different shades of green.

In contrast, this was seen from the rear camera as we left the campground.
On our way to Vicki's house. Ugh, construction is one of the first things we see. And saw for most of the rest of the trip.

This has been a longtime familiar sight when we get near the airport.

Been here a long time ago. Didn't go this time just happened to see the sign when we made a turn around.

This construction was right where we needed to exit the freeway.

A familiar sight for me, downtown Mt Clemens. I used to see this every day when I was driving a school bus.

Getting close to our destination. This is a sleepy little lake town.

This is the view from our coach. It overlooks the St Clair River. We are about 20 miles from where the river meets Lake Huron.

And of course...our usual neighbors.

We are headed for Vicki's house. Will take pictures tomorrow and post. We made it this far safe and sound. Thank you.

Grass Lake, MI Jul 28, 2010

We started out this morning to see what there was to see. We went to the City of Grass Lake. They have the usual old houses and beautiful churches. Wish I could learn to get all of the buildings.

We couldn't find anything but bars on the GPS. Wonder if it is a paid catalog for travelers. We really aren't in Hawaii.

Tour the town---see the houses.

Here's one for sale. The second picture is beside the driveway entrance.

We drove down a farm road and found a roadside market. Tonight we had fresh corn and greens beans, along with some home canned bread and butter pickles. Mmmm mmm good.
Look, I got the roof peak this time. Oh wait, George took this picture. Figures!!!

The one I took was minus the widows' walk. George took this too.
Well, at least I got the year on this one.

This is what we started out to see. It's the Union Depot Park.

It wasn't open but George peeked in to see where they hold wedding receptions.

This time no ice cream but we did eat lunch. Pretty good burgers.
These are some really big homes. Look at the four chimneys.
We tried to find a Cascade Falls Park. Found the entrance but not the falls. It started to rain so hard, we gave up looking.
We sat in the car for a while to give the rain a chance to let up. When it slowed to a drizzle, we negotiated the distance.
This area is for kids to learn to do all different kinds of art.
We learned that the male eagle knocks the rabbit off balance and the female swoops in the make the kill.

Someone took a long time to build this diorama. All these teeny tiny groceries would be a chore.

This TV was built in 1948. Notice that the screen is on the flat surface with a mirror to show the picture.
We used to sit on the floor in front of these radios.
This is why no one wanted a big lawn.
This was a great trolling motor for its day.
My dad had a metal lathe just like this.

Pretty neat old car, eh? There was a sign in one of the cases that said there were 21 different cars being built in Jackson in about 1917.

Thought this was interesting.

And this is the table it was signed on.

An everyday dress.

This went under the dress above.

This is in the city of Jackson. Lost the top again. Connie, I need lessons.

This is the park we are in. Wish it had been as simple as the sign says. There is road construction and we had a heck of a time getting here.

We are in good company here, Phaeton on the right, Phaeton on the left.

Here we are!!!
Before I close, I need to tell you one other thing we did. We went looking for the big house at Jackson State Prison. We were merrily driving up and down the road next to it, taking some wonderful pictures. Up drives a guard---OOOps, can't take pictures. Either had to delete them all or he would take the camera. Decided to delete. All I can say is a big Thank You for taking care of us today.
