Hillsville, VA - Aug 23, 2010

The trip to Hillsville, VA produced but two pictures. I was reading a book.

The town tour begins with a really well landscaped yard.

Connie said "Look at that huge tank". It's evident she hasn't experienced oil heating.

The High School

The Court House and the Carter House.
Can you read the sign? It says the bank building is for rent. Wonder if it's full?

Love to see outside tables.

The courthouse houses the museum that you will see in a minute.

It seems that every town we go to, there is pretty paintings on the wall.

I guess someone lives down here.
We were told that the Time Factory has every kind of time piece you could want. It was further UP the hill so we didn't get that far. It was pretty tough walking for George.

Squint, Connie, squint

We understood that this was a good place to eat. We got in town about 3:00 and it closed at 2:00. Wad ya expect?
The side of an old hotel.

The old hotel is still pretty neat looking.

How many of you remember when this is what ALL shoe stores looked like?

In the window as we passed. Lambs everywhere.
An old telephone switchboard in the museum. Look at the phone. We had two of these. One in the basement and one in the garage and we could talk to each other on them.

Look at all these arrow flints and heads of tomahawks.

This tub was a hollowed out tree. It was HUGE.

The inside of the tub held a scoop. The scoop was also whittled out. I'm thinkin' that is was used for grain or flour.

This clock was made by one of the citizens of Hillsville. He learned the craft while in prison.

More of his handiwork.

An old pump organ and "Victrola" (as they were called then)

Get a load of the red hat.

How'd you like to sleep on this?

Or wash clothes with this?

A beehive

Can't remember what this is for but it looks difficult to use.

This is the Carter House. He was the richest man in the county. Wait 'til you see the back.

The back---look at how long it is. It's all part of the house.

More paintings.

Off to lunch we go---Todd's Dining Car. This cotton candy machine was in the middle of the restaurant.

All across the front window was this toy train display.

Going out the back door to the parking lot we saw this.

And this

And this
Looks like the car went through the wall!!!
Here are the two amigos.
Good days, good friends. Thank you.
