Gettysburg, PA - Aug 31, 2010

Before we get started for the day, we decided to plan our escape plan. The streets here are very narrow so we didn't want a repeat of the Thurmont episode. We happened upon an abandoned miniature golf course and this little house was part of it.

Then, it's over to the National Solidiers Cemetery. This statue is at East Cemetery Hill.

Entering the cemetery, the first thing you see is all these HUGE trees. You just know they had to be here when the cemetery was dedicated in 1863.

Such a beautiful setting. These men deserve the serenity.

Look at the size of these trees. The little white dots below are the gravestones.

Everywhere you look are gravesites.

These little markers are the unknown soldiers

So many unknown soldiers.

This is the way we entered the cemetery.

Back to Lincoln Square to see the unique buildings.

In the Davis house is this table where Lincoln finished writing the Gettysburg Address.

The actual bed that Lincoln slept in the night before the address. Interesting fact---all the furniture in this room is wired so that if you even touch it, an alarm will go off. AND, you will be videotaped.

The outside of the Davis house. The house was opened to the public in 2009.

Time to tour.

Lincoln's Diner. Naturally, we ate there.

The train station where the address was made. The platform was removed, dismantled and buried in some undetermined spot.

A pair of shoes found at the time of the battle.

We thought this farm was deserted but there is actually someone living there.

We went looking for the round barn. Connie has some really great pictures of this. http://esparzacm.blogspot.com I get so engrossed in looking at things, I forget to take pictures.

Looks like it might be a pump house.

As seen outside.

The welcome to the barn.

On our way home we saw this little school house. (through a dusty window)

Yahoo!!!! I finally got caught up on the posting. It's not so much fun not having good internet connections. We have really had a great time here. Thank you.
